Laurencia, A Ballet
- premiered at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1939
- adaptation of Fuenteovejuna as a ballet
- focuses on romance between Laurencia and Frondoso
- due to the silent nature of ballet, the final scenes involving the following inquisition into the case is not present
- done in the Soviet style of drambalet to emphasize the realness of the events and characters
V for Vendetta, a graphic novel and movie
- movie premiered in 2005, based on a graphic novel by Vertigo Comics
- Not necessarily an adaptation but the parallels are extremely clear
- main plot revolves around a man and woman together against an unjust environment
- female protagonist is under great threat, particularly in regards of sexual violence
- ends with the entirety of the people of the city coming together under one identity to end the tyranny
- blends the ideas of Fuenteovejuna with modern, comic style instances
- Nazi-esque bad guys
- super cool super guy in a mask with super human abilities
The Village, by April De Angelis
- first staged in 2018 at Theatre Royal Stratford East in London
- adapts medieval Spain to modern India
- the Commander is now the Inspector, a member of the BJP
- De Angelis gives the story a feminist, 21st century twist
- Jyoti, the Laurencia character, is a stand alone character; she is a single teenager pursued by the Inspector
- the women of the village, as opposed to everyone, or particularly the men, rise up against the Inspector and his regime to fight back
- bones of the story are still the same
- young woman is pursued sexually by an older male in a high position of power, abusing it to his advantage
- the village rallies together to protect her
- the whodunit for the ages
